Fake EMT Busted
Winsted - A local man has been busted for pretending to be a medic. Police say
he even went as far to treat victims. Tonight police want to know if the EMT pretender
treated other victims as well. Laurie Bocchette now has three stitches on her
finger after cutting it on a piece of glass. When she saw all the blood she panicked
and called 911. Little did she know the man claiming to be anEMT was not. "I have
been upset all day," said Bocchette, "I don't know who took care of me, he was
in my house, and he touched me basically." Winsted police say Walter Perlotto
showed up after emergency crews telling an officer he was an EMT. "What make it
a crime is he identified himself as member of the Winsted Ambulance Association
and he also rendered aid to someone who needed medical assistance," said Police
Chief Nicholas Guerriero. Police say Perlotto drives around listening to the scanner
and earlier that same day he responded to another 9-1-1 call. That time a man
was having a seizure at McDonalds. Winsted police say this sort of crime doesn't
happen very often but it is serious; Perlotto faces up to 30 years in prison plus
fines. Police say Perlotto told them he had been anEMT and that his license expired
three years ago. But again, police say they found no record of Perlotto ever having
a license.
